Supplements
I was looking through my hard drive the other day and came across this list of supplements, and notes, I’d written down after reading Dr. Eugene Shippen’s The Testosterone Syndrome.
I’ve not done any other research on any of them and would encourage you to do your own. (My old PCP was not a big fan of Ginko Biloba… check with your doctor before adding it.)
The only things I take, reliably, are a multivitamin, zinc and copper.
* * * * * *
Ginko Biloba: Increases blood flow to the brain. May help with mental processes and keep the mind sharp.
Ginseng: Evidence it is a direct pituitary supplement. Improved energy, alertness, sexuality.
L-dopa: Important neurotransmitter amino acid. A prescription drug, Fish is high in L-dopa.
Vitamin C: Enhances pituitary gland’s responsiveness to changes in hormone levels. Low levels of C have been shown to increase levels of aromatase. Essential for the formation of the basic steroid hormones of the adrenal glands and gonads in both sexes. Take one to three grams daily.
Vitamin E: Take 400 to 800 ius daily. Provides skin elasticity. Shown to improve potency in rats. Antioxidant.
B Complex: B6 decreases secretion of prolactin. Folic Acid and B12 are also important.
Zinc: Inhibits aromatase enzyme activity. Increases ejaculate volume.. Severe deficiency halted puberty development in teenage boys. (If you are supplementing with zinc you need to take some copper as well.)
Reservatrol: Grape skin extract. Improves the functioning of the liver P450 system which allows the body to more effectively remove excess estrogen. Reservatrol and grape seed extract are excellent antioxidants.
